Hello everyone!

Its been a while so here's what I have been up to recently.......

I had a stall at the Natural England Wye festival and meet lots of people were really care about our bumblebees and their decline. Here's some photographs from Bridget Bachelor's son. What fantastic pictures, the purple flower is purple toadflax and the bees love it! The following week I did a walk for Kent Wildlife Trust which was brilliant, we saw lots of bumblebees and everyone had a great time exploring the hay meadows looking for bees. On Sunday I did a walk and talk down at Rye Harbour and I have been sent through three photos by Alan Kenworthy of some of the bees we saw. That is my finger which is holding a buff tailed queen- but don't try that at home ;) The other is a common carder bee and a cuckoo bee! A big thank you to everyone who came to my events and thanks for sending through the photos. I just have one big bee walk and talk event now, which will be at RSPB Dungeness reserve on the 8-9th August. There is going to be a big marquee with lots of local charities present, so should be a fantastic day.

My bumblebee ID course is now fully booked. However I will be doing another next June with Butterfly conservation on moths and bumblebees. If your interested do enquiry or keep an eye on the events page for more information. I will be doing winter talks at Tunbridge Wells museum and the RSPB reserve so watch out for my new events leaflet!

Its quite exciting as next week I am off to the Czech republic! Colleagues over there have been breeding the short haired bumblebee, which is fantastic because they are so hard to captive breed. I'm going over to see how they are doing it, where subt is found, where it nests and what it forages on! Its very rare over there as well so fingers crossed we will find some. Its going to be a fascinating trip and watch this space for pics and all the information I received!!

All the best Nikki
