Bumblebee Identification on Harris

August 14, 2019 @ 10:00 am – 3:30 pm
Talla na Mara, West Harris, Isle of Harris

Date Wednesday 14th August

Time 10.00am for a 10.30am start. Finish around 3.30pm

Location Talla na Mara, West Harris, followed by an afternoon field visit to the Northton machair

This course will teach you how to identify all of the bumblebee species found in the Outer Hebrides. The morning indoor session will cover bumblebee ecology, lifecycle and conservation, and will be followed by an afternoon field practice session in the flower-rich machair at Northton where you will gain confidence in how to safely catch and identify bumblebees. No previous experience necessary. This is a free event; however, if you are able, a suggested donation of £10 would help us in our conservation work in Scotland.

What will you need: a lunch and suitable shoes for a short walk. If you have a hand lens, net or ID guide then do bring them along, although these will be available to borrow on the day.

Advance booking is required using our online booking form.
