2026 will mark both the 20th anniversary of the Bumblebee Conservation Trust and the well-deserved retirement of its Chief Executive Officer, Gill Perkins, after ten years of dedicated service.
Gill Perkins, who has led the Bumblebee Conservation Trust since 2016, will retire in February next year to spend more time with her family and focus on caring responsibilities. With her departure coinciding with the Trust’s 20th anniversary, it is a fitting moment to reflect on her remarkable contribution to bumblebee conservation and the charity sector.
Gill joined the Trust after a successful career in business, bringing strategic acumen and a deep-rooted passion for conservation. Under her leadership, the Trust has grown in reach, impact, and visibility, to become the leading voice for bumblebee conservation in the UK.
Reflecting on her time as CEO, Gill said: “I have been lucky enough to work in a sector filled with passion, creativity, and commitment. Every day, I’ve been inspired by the people around me – the staff, volunteers, supporters, and stakeholders – all of whom care deeply about bumblebees and our environment.
“My proudest moments have been those where I’ve seen hearts open to the wonder of bumblebees – whether that’s on a visit to a school, during a community talk, or a casual conversation with a stranger on a train. I’ve always believed that people are the key to our success, and I’m proud to have helped nurture a love of bumblebees in so many.
“As I step down, I feel privileged to have played my part in one short chapter of the Bumblebee Conservation Trust. The charity has big ambitions for the future, and I’m excited for my successor, who has the amazing opportunity to write the next part of the Trust’s wonderful story. I’ll continue to cheer from the sidelines and remain a passionate advocate for bumblebees.”
Angela Style, Chair of the Board of Trustees, paid tribute to Gill’s leadership: “Gill has been a visionary and compassionate leader, guiding the Trust through a decade of growth and impact. Her ability to connect people to our mission and inspire action has been extraordinary. As we approach our 20th anniversary, we also look ahead to a new chapter. We are now seeking a new CEO to build on Gill’s legacy and lead us into the future. This is a unique opportunity to shape the next phase of our journey and make a lasting difference for bumblebees and nature.”
The Bumblebee Conservation Trust is now inviting applications for its next Chief Executive Officer. The successful candidate will join a passionate and expert team, lead with integrity, and help secure a thriving future for bumblebees across the UK.
