Join a thriving conservation charity and help protect Wales’ rare bumblebees!

The Bumblebee Conservation Trust is offering a unique opportunity to make a real impact for nature on the beautiful Carmarthenshire Coast. We’re seeking an enthusiastic and skilled Cynefin i Wenyn Senior Project Officer to lead vital habitat creation work for some of the UK’s rarest bumblebee species.

The Cynefin i Wenyn project draws on the Welsh idea of cynefin — a deep sense of belonging and connection to place — to restore and celebrate the landscapes that bumblebees depend on. By creating thriving habitats across the Carmarthenshire Coast, the project helps rare bumblebee species find their own cynefin, while strengthening the bond between local communities, their land, and the wildlife that makes it unique.

We are seeking a passionate conservationist who thrives on working outdoors, engaging communities, and bringing people together. As a competent Welsh speaker with a talent for communication, you’ll champion our mission across a wide range of audiences — from local landowners to volunteer groups and partner organisations. You will design and deliver high-quality and connected habitats, support and coordinate dedicated volunteers, provide engaging training sessions, and lead survey and monitoring work across the project area.

‘Cynefin i Wenyn’ is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we will be able to protect threatened bumblebee species in Carmarthenshire by creating and enhancing their habitats and by empowering people to actively participate in conservation efforts.

Gwnaed ‘Cynefin i Wenyn’ yn bosibl gan Gronfa Treftadaeth y Loteri Genedlaethol. Diolch i chwaraewyr y Loteri Genedlaethol, byddwn yn gallu amddiffyn rhywogaethau o Wenyn sydd dan fygythiad yn Sir Gaerfyrddin trwy greu a gwella eu cynefinoedd a thrwy rymuso pobl i gymryd rhan mewn ymdrechion cadwraeth.

The National Lottery Heritage Fund is the largest funder for the UK’s heritage. Using money raised by National Lottery players we support projects that connect people and communities to heritage. Our vision is for heritage to be valued, cared for and sustained for everyone, now and in the future. From historic buildings, our industrial legacy and the natural environment, to collections, traditions, stories and more. Heritage can be anything from the past that people value and want to pass on to future generations. We believe in the power of heritage to ignite the imagination, offer joy and inspiration, and to build pride in place and connection to the past.

The Bumblebee Conservation Trust is an Equal Opportunities employer. This means that whilst seeking employment or during such employment with the Trust, we will seek to ensure equality of treatment for all persons regardless of sex, race, age, marital or civil partnership status, disability, religion or belief, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, pregnancy or maternity status.

We recognise that candidates with a disability or from ethnically diverse backgrounds are under-represented in our organisation, and that there are often additional barriers present for people from these groups when applying for roles in the charity sector and beyond. We are committed to taking positive action to expand the diversity of our staff team through the Trust EEDI Interview Scheme (EIS). Applicants who apply through the Trust EIS and who meet the minimum criteria for the role will be offered an interview. In the event of a high-volume of applicants who tick this box, then selection for interview will be those who best meet the minimum criteria for the post rather than all of those that meet the minimum criteria, in the same way as we do for applicants who do not opt in to the EIS.

It is important to note that this scheme guarantees an interview for candidates who meet or best meet the essential criteria and tell us that they’d like to be considered under the scheme. The selection decision at interview will be based on the most suitable candidate, regardless of any protected characteristic. Access to the Trust EIS simply requires an applicant who identifies as being disabled or from an ethnically diverse background to answer ‘yes’ to the question on the application form ‘do you wish to be considered under the Trust EEDI Interview Scheme?’.

Please note that by submitting an application for employment, you are accepting that you have read and understood our Data Protection and Privacy Policy for Job Applicants.
